Chapter 6: Father vs. Son

The Z-senshi hurried as fast as they could; stopping just outside the underground city. "Are we all here?" Goku demanded, surveying the group, Aya was still clinging to Chibbi Trunks as Mirai Trunks gazed back at the enterance, "Don't think about it Trunks." Goku said quietly, "Bulma wanted us all to leave, that means you."

"Don't you get it?" Trunks said, "She can't save them, he will still kill them. I have to confront him; I alone." Goku tried to speak, but Trunks wouldn't let him, "I have to do what I couldn't do in my time, I have to save those who were killed." he met Aya's eyes, she knew what he meant.

A single tear fell from her golden eyes, "My father?" she whispered, Trunks nodded, "He's going to die today?"

"If I don't go." Trunks said evenly.

Goku nodded gravely, he put his hands on Aya's shoulder and tried to comfort her. She pulled away from Goku and shoved Chibbi Trunks into Mirai Trunks arms and dashed back into the city.

"Aya!" Goku cried, he tried to follow her, but the pain returned ten-fold. "Goku!" ChiChi cried in horror.

All the Z-senshi reacted in shock as Goku regained his composure, "I'm fine." he choked out "I'll be okay. Let's get going."

Mirai Trunks handed his younger self over to Krullin, who akwardly accepted, "Gohan," he said, "I need to talk to you for a moment."

Gohan nodded, "Okay." he turned to the others, "Go ahead, I'll catch up."

ChiChi was about to protest, but Yamucha scooped her up and they took off. Trunks waited until they were out of sight to speak, "I didn't tell you this before, but in my time, your father wasn't killed by Vejiita." Gohan looked at him curiously, "He died of some sort of heart disease."

Gohan became pale as he remembered the events just a few moments ago, "When?" He asked, his voice cracking.

Trunks shrugged, "I don't know the exact date, but it was shortly after Vejiita took the city. Gohan struggled to be strong, it was hard not to cry. "Don't worry," Trunks consoled, "My mother spent years developing a cure I could bring to you here. If we cure him now, then he won't be dead in my time."

Gohan wiped his tears and smiled, "You mean you have it?"

Trunks nodded as he pulled the bottle out of his jacket and handed it to the boy, "The dosage is on the bottle, you have to hurry and give it to him now. I have to find Vejiita." Gohan nodded, turned and took off, "Good luck kid."

Gohan took off, looking behind him and watched Trunks enter the city to face Vejiita, "You too."

Bulma struggled to regain consciousness; she focused on the light and achieved her goal. She sat up in the vast chamber; there was no furniture besides the bed and a communication console. That didn't surprise her, Vejiita often commented about how humans took up too much space with their useless 'decorations'.

As her eyes traveled the room, they fell upon one of Vejiita's female guards, who eyed her suspicously. Bulma tried to smile, but she just didn't feel like being polite today. She sighed and turned away, sure the guard didn't really want to talk to her.

She fell back against one of the large pillows and tried not to cry in front of the guard. She felt as she had been ripped in half emotionally. Part of her was glad she was with Vejiita, she had missed him; the other half was grieving at the probability of seeing any of her friends again. Vejiita was surely going to take her off Chikyuu, she wouldn't even see her son again. Unless, there was a chance that he would let her take him; she doubted that, though.

She closed her eyes, 'Dende,' she prayed silently, 'please let it be all right."

She was nearly jolted out of the bed when there was a response in her mind, 'I can't garuntee anything, I'm a faliure Bulma.'

Bulma closed her eyes, as the guard gave her a look of confusion, 'Dende, you're wrong! How can you even think such a thing?' There was no response, Bulma sighed. 'Poor Dende, I'm so sorry.'

She turned on her side, away from the guard. Curling up into a fetal position and pulling the covers up next to her; she let slumber overtake her.

Gohan hurried to catch up with the others, clutching the bottle tightly so as not to drop it and lose its precious, life saving medicing within. They had landed in a forest clearing, Krullin looked akward as he tried to calm a crying Trunks, "I don't think he liked flying very well." Krullin said nervously. The others tried to smile, but they could only think of their friends in the danger they were in.

Goku stood away from the group, the pain in his chest was back. 'What's wrong with me?' he wondered silently.

Gohan turned to his father, taking the bottle out of his pocket, he walked to him, "Daddy," he said quietly, Goku turned and smiled weakly. Gohan held out the bottle and Goku took it from him, reading the lable, a curious glint in his eye. "Mirai Trunks gave this for me, it's for you. Please, take some now!"

Goku studied the lable closer and smiled, it was written in Bulma's handwritting, it said, "Medicine for a broken heart."

Vejiita waited patiently for his arrival. His tail looped to and fro in excitement. Most of the prisoners had been taken away, only a few rebels and their families remained. He smirked as his eyes met an older man, his silver hair and golden eyes told Vejiita who he was close too. The little bitch would suffer the consequences of her actions.

And then, there was Bulma. His smirk turned to a smile, she was finally his again. She was waiting for him at his base, unable to escape; she was at last, completely his. He couldn't wait to see her again.

He jolted back when the ki he had been monitoring skyrocketed as it came closer to where he was. Vejiita prepared, "This is going to be fun!"

Suddenly, he appeared. He wasn't exactly what Vejiita had expected. He had the air of a warrior, and the appearance of one, but Vejiita couldn't sense any anger of hostility, it was something he couldn't place. Trying not to dwell on it, Vejiita extended his greeting, "Welcome, warrior," he said, "to your death!"

Trunks tried hard not to cry, keeping his face set in stone. "I haven't come here to fight!" He declared, "I came here to free these people and stop you once and for all!"

Vejiita laughed, "How do you intend to stop an immortal, boy?"

Trunks didn't respond, with lightning fast movements he began to kick and punch Vejiita. Vejiita was surprised by the sudden onslaught, but after a moment he regained his composure. He easily blocked all of the boys hits, while some of his own made a connection with the boy.

Trunks pulled away, gasping for breath, but Vejiita wouldn't let him take a break. Vejiita pounded him mercilessly, Trunks was unable to block him. "See," Vejiita mocked, "you can't defeat an immortal!"

Trunks was deterimined to win, "I can't defeat you!" he shouted, "But I can save you!"

Vejiita laughed, "Save me from what?" he demanded.

"From yourself!"

Trunks shot out towards him again, mananging to knock him off his feet with a quick blast of ki. Vejiita became enraged by such embarrasment, He powered up and blasted towards him at full strenght."

Trunks couldn't react, in a moment he was on the ground watching the blood flow from him. Vejiita gave him a deadly glare, "You die boy." he said, his voice cold, "After you watch these before you die!"

Trunks opened his mouth, but the scream he heard wasn't his own, "Papa!" came the shrill voice, it was Aya. "Trunks you have to save him!"

Vejiita turned and smirked, "I couldn't have planned this better myself!" He motioned for one of the guards, who placed a sword against Aya's father's throat; Aya stopped dead in her tracks, Trunks didn't even breath. "Now, your punishment begins bitch!"

He signaled, in one swift flash of steel, Aya's father was on the ground, a pool of his blood around him. Aya couldn't scream, she turned away and vomited as shw began to weep. Trunks eyes couldn't leave his body, he felt sick. He had failed, in utter torment, he let out a single, soul piercing cry.
