Part 5: 'Project: Genesis'

The throne room of the palace was filled with Bati-jins from all over the planet; they had come to watch the coronation of their new King, Vejiita. Bulma watched the ceremony from the back of the room with the rest of the slaves.

The coronation was short, Vejiita had insisted that they cut out over half of their traditional ceremony. Bulma watched, bored, as the Bati-jins swore a loath of loyalty to their new king. In a few days, she would be required to do the same. She cursed Vejiita under her breath, earning a few stares of disapproval from fellow slaves. She had been on the planet for a week and no one had given her a single explination as to what she was needed for; everyone was too busy getting ready to crown a new king.

She wondered why the Bati-jins were so eagar to name Vejiita their king. Wasn't there anyone from their own race who could rule? When the ceremony was over, Bulma waited for the guards to dismiss them. She jumped when a hand rested on her shoulder. Spinning around she came face-to-face with a young woman, "Lord Dondurma requires your presence." the woman spoke coldly, "Follow me."

Bulma did as she was told, eagar to find answers to her questions. She was led down a maze of corridors. She gasped when the reached the science wing of the palace. Bulma had never seen such a place. There were so many techs working, so many fascinating things. 'Maybe this won't be so bad after all.'

The woman led Bulma into a room at the back of the wing. "He's waiting for you in there." she pointed

Bulma went in, and smiled politely at Dondurma. He sighed and nodded in return. "There is much to be done." he said sternly, "So I will tell you this first. You are our King's slave, and he has given me reign over you. You will do as you are told and not ask questions. Is this understood?"

Bulma sighed, vexed, "I don't give a shit about what Vejiita tells you." she said coldly, "I am no one's slave."

Dondurma smiled, very amused, "If you are no one's slave, then why are you still here?" Bulma bit her tounge, "Exactly." he continued, "You have no real power here. You belong to the king, so shut your mouth bitch."

Bulma remained silent, sure that he would kill her if he saw fit. Pleased that she was silent, he continued. "Vejiita says your intelligence compares to mine, we shall see. I find it hard to believe that an alien from an isolated planet could possibly comprehend the science of the universe."

He pointed to a chair, "Sit." he said, Bulma did not question. "Vejiita wants you to help rebuild the Saiya-jin empire. That is what you will do. We have been gathering the information, technology, and everything else needed for this to be done. This is something we have been working on since the beginning of the Saiya-jin empire. It's a little something we've called 'Genesis'."

Bulma watched as Dondurma sat at the computer, "I will teach you everything you need to know about Genesis. In two days, you will report to the King."

Bulma sat back and sighed; it was going to be a long two days.

"Young man," Dr. Briefs stammered, "you can't possibly want to go to outer space now! Why not wait for your father and Krullin to be wished back. You can't go anywhere alone!"

Gohan turned, determination carved in his features, "I have to." he stated plainly, "I can't wait for the dragonballs, it could be too late. I left Bulma alone, it's my fault Vejiita took her. I have to go now!"

Dr. Briefs shook his head, placing his hands on the boys shoulders, "I understand." he said quietly, "I want you to go more than anything in the world, that's my little girl out there. It's just to dangerous for you, I couldn't let you go. Listen, I'll make adjustments to the ship while we're waiting and I'll see if I can get a signal from Bulma's ship before something happens and we can't pick it up. Why don't you go find Dende and play?"

Gohan sighed a walked away. Dr. Briefs went inside the ship and began to work, he had to track Bulma's ship before he lost it for good.

Freeza stared out through his veiwing station, his wine colored lips curled in disgust. "All those wretched planets, just crying out to be conquered by my hands." he turned away from the sight, sipping some wine from its glass. "However," he continued, "I have more important things to do than worry about sniveling creatures that will fall at my feet soon enough. There is still the Saiya-jin problem that must be eradicated."

At the mere thought of the Saiya-jins, Freeza tossed the glass aside, its contents spilling onto the floor. Freeza paid it little mind as he thought of his final victory over the Saiaya-jins. He turned to the window again, a smile tugged at his lips, "Soon, the victory will be mine."

Dondurma waited patiently as Bulma familerized herself with her newest toy. It was similar to a laptop, but it was voice activated and recorded every word it was told. She was to use it as reference since she could not read or speak Bati-jin. She nodded when she was ready.

Dondurma clicked a few buttons and the computer screen was filled with colorful pictures and foreign words. "Make sure your screeen looks like mine." he stated, Bulma nodded, "Good, let's start from the beginning. Bati-sei and Vejiita-sei have shared an alliance ever since the Saiya-jin empire was first termed. The Saiya-jins saw the obvious use for our intelligence and we saw an obvious use for their strength. The king of that time saw a great benifit in our genetics department. He wanted to create a perfect Saiya-jin race. There for, we started collecting DNA from all the living Saiy-jins of every class, and storing it in a data bank here. Then, we started collecting DNA from infants, then, periodically we would collect it from the same until they died; storing all of their DNA together. Later, I will show you these DNA banks."

Bulma's studied her screen, an example of a DNA strand was being shown. So similar to a humans, but with destinctive differences. She wasn't an expert on genetics, but it wasn't anything she couldn't learn. "Is this something like cloning?" she asked.

"In the beginning stages, yes." Dondurma responded, "However, as our technology advanced we realized how primative cloning was. No, Genesis is actually creating an entirely different being as if he were born from two sets of parents. Here, we can control there genes, what they look like, how powerful they will become."

Bulma sat back, letting it all sink in. This whole idea was unheard of on Chikyuu, cloning itself was in its early stages, and very contraversial. Dondurma frowned, "May was conitnue?" he asked, a hint of annoyance in his speach. Bulma nodded, "While we were collecting DNA, we also began to study what needed to be done to create this empire, what tools were needed. We continued collecting DNA samples until shortly before Vejiita-sei was destroyed. We continued to prepare and work on Genesis at the prince's demand, he knew that someday the Saiya-jin empire could rise again, and now it will."

Bulma thought for a moment, "Have you actually created a being with this process?" she queried.

Dondurma shook his head, "No." he answered truthfully, "However, in the beginnning stages of Genesis, we cloned a Soldier of third class. He has not been awakened, however. We see no real use for him since he is merely a corbon copy of his original. He could not be a part of a perfect race."

Bulma sighed, "Is he still alive?" Dondurma nodded, "You still have him?" again, he nodded, "Perhaps, he could be of some use. How much do you know about Saiya-jin history and science? Do you expect Vejiita to help you, maybe this Saiya-jin could help."

Dondurma thought for a moment, "I must admit," he said, "that has crossed my mind more than once. What I know of the Saiya-jins is purely based on science, however, a perfect Saiya-jin must have the knowledge and understanding of his culture. This clone has that embedded."

"I don't understand." Bulma said, "How could that be?"

"Cloning is different, when you clone a being you are merely copying the original, knowledge of history and all. The clone truly believes he is the original. However, with Genesis, we are creating an entirely new life form. The first generation of Genesis will not grow from a child to and adult. Instead, they mature in our tanks until they have reached the age of twenty. This process takes six months. During those six months, a computer will be feeding there brain with the knowledge of the history of their empire, and their king, and even their creation. You were correct in suggesting that our clone help us in this quest; however, it must be accepted by King Vejiita."

Bulma sighed, "All right." she said, "Continue, I have a feeling I have a lot to learn."

"Indeed." Dondurma agreed, "Indeed you do."

An exhausted Dr. Briefs stumbled out of the ship. He was surprised to bump into Gohan, literally. "Hello, Dr. Briefs." Gohan said politely, what have you been doing?"

A smile crept beneath the Doctor's mustache, "Would you like to see?" he pointed to the ship. Gohan nodded eagerly. The doctor ushered the boy in. "I reprogramed a few things in the ship to make the journey quicker and easier. Once you and the others are ready to go, you'll press this one button and you'll be off. The ship is set on to the coordinates from the last signal from Bulma's ship."

Gohan nodded, storing this information for later, "What if we wait too long and she's no longer there?"

The doctor frowned, "It's a chance we have to take. It's a start, perhaps we can find a clue as to her next where abouts."

Gohan nodded, "What else?" he asked.

"Nothing, really, just a few odds and ends. I've been so worried, I havent' done anything but work on this ship. It's ready to go, we just have to wait until the others are wished back."

Gohan frowned and stomped out of the ship, leaving a very confused doctor.

Later that night:

Gohan tucked his last capsule in his pocket. He had enough food and clothes to last him for a few months, by then, he will have hopefully made some progress. Tiptoeing through the hallway, he glanced in at his mother. She was hugging the pillow next to her, tears staining her face. "I'll set everything right," he whispered, "I promise."

He then blasted out of the house and to Capsule Corp.. The ship sat there waiting for him, beckoning him. He wasn't sure if he could do it alone, but to wait until they could wish the others back was too risky. It could be too late for Bulma, then again, it could be already. He landed quietly on the deck and silently entered the ship. It wouldn't be long before the security system detected him, so he had to be quick.

He sat down in the pilots seat and recalled everything Dr. Briefs had told him earlier. After saying a quick prayer, he pressed the red button. And so, his journey began.
